Andy and Jamie are teaming up to play doubles in Indian Wells.

There are some very good doubles teams in the Entry List - and some very good players who might not get into the draw!!!

Rafa's playing too. Nice to see Dolly and Xavier back together again.

Shame Colin/Ross will not get into the draw because of all the "non doubles" partnerships. They need some high reward matches to progress up the rankings.

Shame Colin/Ross will not get into the draw because of all the "non doubles" partnerships. They need some high reward matches to progress up the rankings.

But they could still be in the draw ..... and it's highly likely that they will be.

If you look at the entry list (for this 32 draw) there are 22 definites based on rank on 20th February.

The are also 8 x OS - this stands for On-Site and places are allocated to teams present at a certain time in I/Wells (and within a few hours of the draw being made) and it's based on combined ranking. Since Colin and Ross are in the States and intend playing there thru' to the end of March they'll be in Memphis by the OS deadline of 7th March and there is every chance they'll be in the draw. If they do well this week and next they could move further up that list of "Alts".

Doubles works differently to singles in this regard; in singles places are either by DA (direct acceptance based on rank), SE, WC or Qualifying and there isn't the On-Site option at all.

The remaining 2 x WC are up to the TD to allocate and would likely to go American pairings who miss out on a spot either via the Entry List or On-Site places. In some cases those WC's will go first to Americans on the Alt list e.g. Isner/Querey and that in itself would move Colin/Ross up a place.

RFS
11-03-2012, 10:34
well I for one hope that they try and play to win. it's clear Andy needs to get some matches under his belt for this stretch...
I am a little uncomfortable with so many thinking they don't have a chance...

Sure - sometimes we know that Andy tends to go for everything when perhaps he needs to play more in a team - but we also know that CAN pull it out of the bag - and maybe, just maybe he needs a win to put this morning's defeat behind him.
And he always really wants to do well for Jamie...

Personally while Andy is still in a competition in IW - I hope he gives it everything.
If they go out fair and square, then absolutely on to Miami and hope things come good there....

I see that Garrigues and Goerges have been switched from Court 7 to Stadium 2 (since Kerber & King aren't playing as King has the stomach bug). So Andy, Jamie, Colin & Ross may be on earlier than expected (I haven't seen a revised OOP so don't know whether any other matches may be moved).

Cos it's points towards the year end and hopefully they'll have a good enough year that they'll qualify for WTF - Andy and Jamie won't.

JAMES4578
11-03-2012, 22:43
Whilst I'm pretty neutral, thinking long term probably better if Flemchins come through here-still a break up hopefully the Murrays will battle though.

Off to bed - don't know who I want to win now. But Andy probably needs to get off to Miami and get his head straight. On the other hand a win here might help his confidence.

Sallydaisy

Muzzahs now 4-0 up in the 2nd set.

MurrayAOne
11-03-2012, 23:12
Go Andy and Jamie!!!!!!!!!!

JAMES4578
11-03-2012, 23:12
Quite a turnaround, but looks like Cross have falterted as Murrays rise to the challenge. Could be an interesting ctb!

Sallydaisy
11-03-2012, 23:16
Andy and Jamie reached the QF here last year so they're defending 180 points.
+ w/c 12/3 Jamie will also drop 90 points for getting through a round in Miami last year.

So, for the elder Murray a couple of wins here are needed to keep his ranking.

+ tbh I wouldn't mind if Andy got a couple of matches under his belt here before heading to Miami.
It might help his confidence.

As a regular pairing Flemchins will have lots more chances to post wins throughout this year and ensure their place in London in November! (and get into the Olympics!!).

Alis
11-03-2012, 23:26
I agree Sallydaisy - having first thought it would be better for Andy to get out of there asap, on reflection it would probably be better for him to get a few matches under his belt before Miami, both for his confidence and match fitness.

Sallydaisy
11-03-2012, 23:30
Phew, trading of mini-breaks again.

Murrays ahead 5-3, Flemchins serving.
Now 6'3 and it's the Muzzahs to serve.

hi jac, yup, good practice in serving aces on second serve, even at the cost of a few dfs, eh what old chap.
tho that might have been 'the other guy', in which case andy needs a better partner, another scot perhaps, that fleming feller might be amenable?

Davydenko out with illness so Bellucci gets a walkover. First match on Stadium 3 will be Ferrer v Istomin. I wouldn't mind betting that they'll move a match from Stadium 2 to Stadium 3, but no sign of a revised OOP yet. Will have to check later as Andy & Jamie might be on earlier than expected.

Am assuming the match will be middle of the night for us right? Never nice not knowing time :p And no livestream?

Good luck Andy and Jamie! Nothing to lose, everything to gain!

The court they were on has supposedly finished live transmission but is continuing to show a wideview webcam transmission of Indian Wells and you can hear the players being announced in the background. SO frustrating!
PS They won the first set 7-6. Very tight set.
Early break in second. That was strange. Opponents had 78% first serves in first set and did not serve a single first serve in that game!

Yay. A really tight first set, but they won the tiebreak :cheer:

Awake stupidly early (no down time this week between revision and drafting a couple of trial articles for the chance to write for a new sports magazine)
I support the Murrays whenever and against whoever ... And for them to have taken the first set is just fabulous!!!!

Come on lads - more of the same !!

Rats - they lost 5-10 in the MTB. And now I have to get up and schlep to that dogs-behind of the world, Watford.
Meh!

Shame they couldn't have clinched it.

Yes, pity but at least on to Miami and hopefully Ivan.

Gutting they fell short in the end, but it obviously was a good effort! At one point they were up 7-6, 2-0 but broken back at 2-1. Set my alarm for 4 but actually woke up a bit before then and seen that the match was due to start but unfortunately as I pretty much expected there was no stream. So I went back to bed and followed scores on my phone and tweeted a few times!

Oh what a shame that they weren't able to win through in the MTB this time

They lost 7-6 6-7 5-10

On the plus side - they can now get out of Indian Un-Wells and head for the east coast where hopefully everyone will be feeling much better

Yep, sounds as though that would be a VERY good plan indeed!!!
Can't remember tournament where so many players went down sick.

It was very close - such a shame

And as for the sickness - I can't remember every hearing about something like this .... hope it doesn't follow them to Miami

Sounds like it was a very good match and Andy & Jamie were very close to winning. The plus side is that Andy can now get down to Miami and be fully-adjusted to the court conditions before his first match there.

........ the downside is that Jamie will lose quite a number of points which he can ill afford. They did really well against an established doubles duo though.

Jamie needs to get a permanent partener if he wants to rise in the rankings, can't keep relying on Andy.

Disappointed at their loss. Now Andy can prepare for Miami, but feel for Jamie who loses points and needs to find a partner soon.

i wonder what happened to the Australian guy and then there was the South American before him - both seemed to be promising partnerships. He doesn't ever seem to give himself time to establish a rapport.

Paul hanley (the Australian) is playing at IW with Gasquet. They are playing today.
Hopefully Jamie & him will be together again at Miami.:highfive:

If they do get together for Miami Jamie and Paul will need to get into the draw via entry 'on-site' because they're not on the Entry List that has been released. Link here. I'm a bit puzzled by people saying Jamie needs to sort out a partner....as far as I can tell he has been playing with Paul this year where possible. I assume they wouldn't make the cut for masters events due to ranking...so they split up to get into the draw.

I see - maybe that's the reason then.

Having said that, it does seem that Jamie just cant settle with a permanent partner. I wonder what the problem is
